What is EDGAR Next?
EDGAR Next refers to a series of technical changes and enhancements being made to the Securities and Exchange Commission's Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system, commonly known as EDGAR. The initiative aims to improve security, modernize connectivity, and enhance filers' abilities to manage their accounts more effectively. EDGAR Next focuses on providing a more robust, user-friendly, and secure environment for submitting and accessing financial documents.
EDGAR Next new protocols and standards for electronic filers
Under EDGAR Next, filers will now formally designate which filing agents are authorized to file on their behalf. Additionally, filers can maintain and update authorized filing agents through the EDGAR dashboard, allowing for streamlined account management and reducing the risk of unauthorized access. This change is aimed at enhancing security by ensuring that only designated and authenticated agents have the authority to submit filings.
Broadridge supports filers in complying with EDGAR Next
Broadridge is actively preparing for compliance with EDGAR Next by assessing and updating its EDGAR systems and other related software to align with the new SEC requirements. This includes participating in the Adopting Beta environment to test the new EDGAR Filer Management website, dashboard, and APIs. Broadridge was also involved in the first beta in 2023, where we provided valuable feedback to the SEC, much of which was incorporated into the new rule. Additionally, Broadridge will be working closely with our clients to assist them in granting the appropriate filing authorities and navigating the transition smoothly. Regular updates and support will be provided to ensure that all filers are prepared for the compliance deadlines.
The transition to EDGAR Next includes several key dates:
- September 30, 2024: Adopting Beta environment opens for filers to prepare and test the new EDGAR Filer Management website and dashboard.
- March 24, 2025: The new EDGAR Filer Management website and dashboard go live, enabling filers to enroll in EDGAR Next and apply for access using the amended Form ID.
- September 15, 2025: Full compliance with EDGAR Next rules and form amendments is required. Legacy EDGAR access codes will be deactivated for filing.
- December 19, 2025: Enrollment ends at 10:00 p.m. Filers who have not enrolled by this date must submit an amended Form ID for access.
